CRCICA arbitral awards are regularly published to guide users in applying its Arbitration Rules, while maintaining the confidentiality of these awards.
CRCICA awards can be found in several reputable publications such as Kluwer Arbitration e.g. the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) Yearbook Commercial Arbitration 2021- Volume XLVI., the International Journal of Arab Arbitration, CRCICA’s self-published Collection of Awards, of which there are currently 8 volumes, and others.

As of recently, Rwanda is known as:

As Rwanda is rapidly transforming into a knowledge-based economy and attracting more investment, the Country has made considerable improvements to the business environment and investment climate. The business reforms are part of the Country’s efforts to promote Rwanda as an attractive business and investment destination in order to drive the growth of the private sector and generate wealth.
Annually, Rwanda and other countries continually work towards improving the Doing Business environment. In 2024 and the previous years, Rwanda has maintained its position as one of the bet places to do business in Africa.
KIAC services are an integral part of the indicators in the Ease of doing business notably, the enforcement of contracts. Until the establishment of KIAC, there was no alternative formal mechanism for dispute resolution to the expensive and time-consuming process of the formal legal process and seeking redress through the commercial courts. Therefore, the main objective of the establishment of Kigali International Arbitration Centre (KIAC) was to address these challenges supplementing efforts undertaken by the judiciary and to provide arbitration services to the business community, public institutions and people from the region. KIACs services are therefore crucial in fostering investment and thus raising efficiency of the administration of justice.
Legislation & Treaties of KIAC
In 2007 Rwanda ratified the UN Convention on the recognition and enforcement of foreign Arbitral awards by the Presidential Order N° 60/01 of 31/12/2007 on the ratification of the United Nations Convention on recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards adopted in New York on June 10th, 1958.
In 2008, the Government of Rwanda adopted the Law Governing Arbitration and Conciliation in commercial matters (Law N° 005/2008 du 14/02/2008 on arbitration and conciliation in commercial matters). This law was a total inspiration of the UNCITRAL model law on international commercial arbitration.
In 2010, KIAC was legally established by an act of parliament Law nº 51/2010 0f 10/01/2010 establishing the Kigali International Arbitration Centre and determining its organization. The Centre was officially launched in May 2012 and in the same month and year, the Centre adopted the Rules governing the administration of Arbitration under KIAC (Arbitration Rules 2012).
In 2015, the Centre adopted the Rules governing the administration of Mediation Proceedings under KIAC (Mediation Rules 2015).
Published Arbitration Awards
Since December 2022, KIAC has entered into collaboration with Jus Mundi relating to the publication of KIAC work including the awards’ publication and other relevant information on KIAC . For more details you may visit:
